Taking part in MonoChroma show for ArtPrize 10.

I am delighted to be a part of MonoChroma, an exhibition of 20 artists curated by Shawn Kruger in Grand Rapids, MI for ArtPrize 10. ArtPrize 10 is the world's largest international art competition and it opens 9/19 and runs through 10/7.

All of the work chosen utilizes a limited or single color palette and encompasses a wide variety of media from paper to bronze. Among participating artist are some good friends and people art I admire: Ali Cavanaugh, Shawn Kruger, Robert Wellings, Benny Sanders, Suzannah Schreckhise, Kathie Bugajski, Ben Graham, Luis Colan, Jesse M Bell, Jackie Mayo, Mark Schumack, Jessica Pisano, Maud, Maudegrasse, Joshua Adam Risner, Sean Witucki, Mic Carlson, Justin Vining, Hillary Scott, Susan Hall.

My three pieces in this show are sculpture inspired, mixed media portrait drawing series. This monochromatic series of portraits balances between three art forms - the one dimensional drawing and painting medium and the three dimensional form of a sculpture. The abstract ink brush marks and textural elements add emotional weight and highlight the human subject by drawing attention to the portrayed face they frame. At the same time, each piece represents a specific model portrayed here, and lifts her person to the value of an art object - a bust of a young woman. An object. Of art. 'Bust 1', 'Bust 2', 'Bust 3' 18x24', graphite and ink on paper, framed.
